Frequently Asked Questions.

Product & Usage

  • Tallow is full of vitamins A (retinol), D, E, K, and B12, especially our local, pasture-raised tallow. The fatty acid profile of tallow closely resembles that of human sebum, making it highly compatible and non-irritating for most skin types. It’s also rich in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and palmitoleic acid, which have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • All skin types!

  • Do a test patch first—especially if you have sensitive skin—then rub on the desired area.

  • Yes. Our facial cream is carefully formulated with clean, skin-loving ingredients that are not only safe for your face but offer a wide range of benefits for sensitive, dry, or problem-prone skin. If you choose plain whipped tallow or the body butter, it’s safe to put on your face, but we always recommend doing a patch test first!

  • It depends on the product. Our face cream lasts about 2–4 months. A 4 or 8 oz body butter typically lasts about a month, depending on usage. A little goes a long way—it works with your skin, not against it.

Ingredients & Sourcing

  • We source our tallow from local farmers in Clarkson, NE. We also have a ranch in Atkinson, NE, where we get our suet. We know exactly where our pasture-raised cattle come from.

  • They’re both! We source our Shea Butter from Africa and our Beeswax from Bulk Apothecary. All of our ingredients are carefully chosen to be organic and safe.

  • Yes. We use essential oils from Revive, Plant Therapy, DoTerra, and Eden's Garden. With over 10 years of experience using oils for healing, we choose brands that are cruelty-free and independently third-party GC/MS tested—the gold standard in essential oil quality and purity. The types of oils we use vary depending on the product’s purpose.

About 402 Tallow Co.

  • While our website and branding just got a fresh new look, our labels are still the original ones we’ve used since day one. Why? Because we're focused on doing things the right way, not the rushed way.

New packaging is in the works and will debut soon—but until then, the jars you receive may look familiar. Same formulas. Same hands making every batch. Just a little behind-the-scenes catching up. Thanks for growing with us!

  • We make them! Our mom lovingly renders the tallow, and we—her daughters—handcraft each product in our kitchens, which we affectionately call “The Tallow Factory” (for now!). When it’s time to prep for vendor shows, it often turns into a full family affair, with everyone pitching in.

  • Starting a business was always a dream for us sisters. After prayer and soul-searching, the idea of 402 Tallow came naturally. Once we learned to source and render our own tallow, and discovered all the ways it could nourish skin, the business was born.

  • 402 represents local. It’s our area code, our roots, our community. It’s a tribute to where we come from—and to the people and place that shaped us.
